This morning, Indiana Blood Center sent an urgent plea to its O negative blood donors. Only two units of O negative whole blood are in the inventory. They were unable to fill 25 hospital orders.
Heading into the long holiday weekend, many regular donors are out of town or unavailable to donate. They rely on the generosity of Hoosiers throughout central Indiana and are encouraging those who can to come in to any Indiana Blood Center donor center and make a donation.
Today and tomorrow they are giving a Wick’s pie to everyone who volunteers to donate blood. O negative donors are able to give to any patient but only seven percent (7 percent) of the population have this type.
