High-tech indoor cycling theater gives residents a new workout option

CycleBar, a cycling studio featuring 49 bikes, a state-of-the-art sound and lighting system, a DJ booth and wide-screen graphics, is set open to the public in Carmel Dec. 10. Each class will be led by CycleStar instructors who take participants on a 50-minute high-energy ride.

The studio, located at 12697 N. Pennsylvania St. on the corner of Pennsylvania Street and West Carmel Drive, will feature healthy snacks available for riders, bottles of water, free shoe rental, towels, showers and lockers with USB ports inside, along with a community room.

ā€œThe biggest thing we want is for people to experience community, and that’s why we have our community room,ā€ said Abby Armstrong, marketing manager. ā€œWe want people to stay and hang out after a ride and truly feel welcome and not intimidated. In the studio, we want it to feel like a party!ā€

Inside the theater, one of 10 instructors sits up front, where they control lighting and sound from an iPad. DJs come in for special events.

Each bike tells riders their revolutions per minute, calories burned and how many miles traveled, which is emailed to them along with a playlist of the songs during the workout.

ā€œThere will be different styles of classes because there will be people who just want to focus on cycling and road biking, others that focus on cardio endurance, but there will be a variety including a beginner class,ā€ said Armstrong.

CycleBar will offer a pay-per-class model, with no membership necessary for riders. Armstrong said a standard ride will be priced at $20 and several packages and promotions will run during the first couple of weeks of opening.

Riders are able to book online to reserve a specific bike up to a week in advance.

Another aspect CycleBar is excited about is its dedication to fundraising. Small fundraisers between $2,000 and $5,000 are welcome. Hosts are able to rent the studio for $200, choose a theme and charge whatever price they would like per seat.
