IHS Celebrates Women’s History Month with Zine Workshop

More by this author

“Girl Power” is a household phrase, and just in time for Women’s History Month, the Indiana Historical Society (IHS) is shedding light on the kind of publication that helped make it popular. Cut/Paste, a workshop presented by Franciscan St. Francis Health, will take place Thursday, March 10, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center, located at 450 W. Ohio St. in downtown Indianapolis.

Zines are small, do-it-yourself publications, and the workshop, co-presented by Rad Grrls Club and General Public Collective, will teach participants about their long, rich history in the feminist movement. Guests also will have the chance to get creative and make their own zines to take home.Ā

Participants can register for Cut/Paste online at www.indianahistory.org. Cost is $7 for adults and $5 for IHS members, which includes light refreshments as well as one drink ticket, provided in partnership with Sun King Brewing.Ā

In addition, IHS celebrates women’s history year-round with Destination Indiana, part of the Indiana Experience. Destination Indiana brings hundreds of the state’s stories to life in images and text and is available at the History Center, through touchscreen stations, or online, at www.destination-indiana.com.Ā

Among the more than 300 Destination Indiana “time-travel journeys,” guests will find topics such as women artists of Indiana, women’s suffrage and women at work. There are also biographies of influential Hoosiers such as Evelyn Fortune Bartlett, Xenia Miller and Cornelia Cole Fairbanks.
