Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Centers announced today it has acquired Lavenia & Summers Home for Funerals, located at 5811 East 38th Street in Indianapolis. The acquisition took effect June 1, with the entire staff and name being retained.Ā

The late Lavenia B. Jacobs was the founder of Lavenia’s Home for Funerals in 1987, and the late Joseph W. Summers was the founder of Summers Funeral Chapel in 1962. The two firms merged in 2002 to form Lavenia & Summers Home for Funerals. The acquisition returns Lavenia & Summers to Hoosier ownership.

ā€œNow in our 135th anniversary year, this is a great opportunity to continue Flanner and Buchanan’s mission to help improve our community,ā€ said Bruce Buchanan, owner. ā€œWe will now focus on the iconic East 38th Street location with plans for many upgrades to the building, including new service amenities. We look forward to working with George Brown, Natalie Summers-Henson and the whole staff to continue building on our shared commitment of service to Central Indiana,ā€ said Buchanan.Ā

ā€œThe staff and I are very excited for this new chapter and to have access to the resources of the Buchanan organization,ā€ said George Brown, General Manager of Lavenia & Summers. ā€œWe feel our service is already excellent but this allows us to take it to the next level. Bruce Buchanan, Tony Lloyd and the entire leadership team have been excellent to work with during the transition as we plan ways to better serve local families.ā€
