Baltimore Mayor comments on Supreme Court decision on President’s immigration executive action

Washington, D.C. – Immediately preceding the opening of The United States Conference Of Mayors 84th Annual Meeting in Indianapolis, U.S. Conference of Mayors President Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake today issued the following statement on the U.S. Supreme Court’s Split Decision in The U.S. v. Texas case:

“Today’s tie vote in the Supreme Court on President Obama’s executive action on immigration has failed to move our nation beyond a lower court decision that now continues to negatively affect the lives and the futures of millions of immigrants who have lived and worked in this country for years and who are now an integral part of our economy and our cities.

“It is a disappointment to The U.S. Conference of Mayors and the more than 100 mayors who, with the Conference, signed onto an amicus brief in support of the President’s executive action that the uncertainty with which this immigrant population has lived for so long must now continue. The Court’s decision today makes enactment of comprehensive immigration reform, which the Conference of Mayors has long supported, an even higher priority for our nation.”
