With public safety top of mind locally and across the nation, Indianapolis residents have reached out to ask how they can be part of the solution to issues in our community.Ā Because of increased interest, the Indy Public Safety Foundation is expanding available seats for the fall session of the Public Safety Citizens Academy.
The Citizens Academy is a free, 10-week course designed to provide a behind the scenes look at the work our cityās first responders do each day to keep Indianapolis safe.Ā
āWhile the Citizens Academy was launched in 2013, itās more important now than ever for citizens to learn more about public safety operations and how they can play a role,ā said Dane Nutty, Executive Director of the Indy Public Safety Foundation. āWeāre excited to offer more opportunities for those who live, play and work in our city to take part in this impactful experience.ā
The academy starts Sept. 8 and will meet each Thurs. from 6:30 p.m. ā 9:30 p.m. through Nov. 17. Participants will cycle through a set of the unique and engaging modules offered by the cityās public safety agencies including Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD), and Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (IEMS).
