I enjoy going to Mexican restaurants. However, it’s not often that I go to one since the food doesn’t always agree with my regular dining companion. The only Mexican restaurant that never caused my friend a bit of trouble was the now closed Javiar’s Hacienda on East Washington Street. Once that restaurant closed, I knew my dining at Mexican restaurants would be minimal at best.
When my Recorder family decided La Hacienda on Graham Road and Binford Boulevard would be the location of our pre-Thanksgiving lunch, I was more than ready!
La Hacienda is pretty much a run-of-the-mill Mexican restaurant. The menu is similar to just about any other Mexican restaurant you’ll find scattered throughout the greater Indianapolis area. I expect fast service, good food and a decent-sized portion at any Mexican restaurant I patronize. That was my experience at La Hacienda.
The server brought a sizzling hot skillet chock full of jumbo shrimp, peppers, onions and tomatoes — exactly how I want my fajita to look. Several of my dining companions looked at my skillet with a little fleck of green envy in their eyes. I love seafood, and I don’t expect to see puny shrimp on my plate. La Hacienda didn’t disappoint. The shrimp were large and meaty. In addition to my fajita skillet, the server brought out a plate of refried beans, another plate with three tortillas wrapped in foil and a plate filled with lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream and guacamole. So, yeah, I had a lot of plates!
Although I was really hungry, I couldn’t finish my meal so I had enough leftover for dinner. It was still good when I reheated it later that night.
What I love most about Mexican restaurants is the fast service and filling portions. I appreciate being able to go to a restaurant for lunch and get in and out. If I stop in for dinner, it’s the same thing. When you’re super hungry or on a tight schedule, the last thing you want to do is sit around waiting for your food.
