Destiny is waiting

Bishop T. Garrott Benjamin Jr.’s guest columnist this week is Cynthia Newman, a member of Light of the World Christian Church.

I recently had a conversation with a cousin who is a phenomenal young entrepreneur. During our chat, we began to talk about the path that our lives are now taking.

In both of our cases, we always knew the outcome that we sought, but life has a funny way of taking you off course. But I say that it takes you off course with the goal of bringing you back on track again.

In fact, I believe that what we see as being off track is not off track at all and that our missteps are carefully crafted steps in our lives. Ultimately, these missteps and detours are our opportunity to show life what we are made of.

There are millions of people talking about what they “wanna do” and are “gonna do,” but I think that God and life are waiting on us to step out and actually do it. I believe that our destiny stands in the wings and waits to see what we will do with our challenges. How will we handle our issues? When we have adversity, will we push forward or retreat?

In other words, destiny stands in the wings and asks “How badly do you want it?”

Will you take a risk to achieve what you want or will you give up when it doesn’t come to you easily? Will you travel your life’s detours, still keeping your eye on your ultimate destination, or will you settle for the detour as the end of the road?

As I sat there talking with my cousin, and later the women at my book signing, I realized that the path of our life is laid out even before we get here on Earth. Psalm 139:16 verifies it this way, “You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.” Isn’t that marvelous?

As I am watching my life unfold before my very eyes, I can now point to profound places in my life where I took a chance, decided to go for it, even when misunderstood. But each time I did that, it led to the next step that allowed me to progress down my yellow brick road.

So I am saying to you that your destiny is waiting! I know that once you allow yourself to get over yourself, you will find that even your hesitation and procrastination have all been a necessary part of your journey. So today … get out of your own way. The path you seek is already carefully laid out and it only requires you to take one step at a time.

Will you trust God and what he endowed you with even before your earthly existence? As 2010 closes and we approach a new year, decide that you are going to follow that still voice inside calling you.

Your destiny is waiting.Go get it.
