Biscuits: Funny name, fine selections

More by this author

With a name like Biscuits, you might think of a family breakfast restaurant similar to Denny’s or International House of Pancakes.

But Biscuits actually offers something different: traditional American breakfast and lunch cuisine with a Mexican kick.

Located in the cosmopolitan and swanky Broad Ripple area of the city, Biscuits is best known as a family restaurant and (to a lesser extent) a place where folks can get good “hangover cure” food.

Many customers enjoy the variety of special combos offered during breakfast and brunch; you know, the meal for those of us who don’t want to eat so early, but still want to eat before noon.

Most of the combo specials are served with the restaurant’s trademark biscuits and gravy, which are served with a choice of either mild or spicy gravy.

Popular breakfast selections at Biscuits include breakfast burritos, eggs benedict, fluffy pancakes and the cheese omelet, hash browns and bacon combo. Among the lunchtime and dinner favorites are the pork tenderloin sandwich, burgers and the country fried steak and eggs.

If you are in need of something a little more exotic, a more suitable option might be Mexican style selections such as flavorful enchiladas and the huevos rancheros with green salsa, which is basically fried eggs served on corn tortillas and covered with salsa.

Many of the servers at Biscuits operate like the staff of a family medical practice; they are friendly, efficient, precise and don’t waste time treating your hunger.

The restaurant itself is very neat with plenty of seating and charming, sophisticated touches such as cloth napkins and tile floors. But some customers might feel cramped by the small tables if their party orders several selections.

More important, however, Biscuits won’t disappoint if you are searching for a diner with a pleasant, clean atmosphere with uncomplicated, homestyle options that are affordable.
