Indianapolis Civic Theatre 3200 Cold Spring Road (on the campus of Marian University) will conduct open auditions for its upcoming Broadway Concert Series presentation of “My Fair Lady” on Monday Nov. 30 and Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m.
Performers are asked to prepare 16 bars of a song and may be asked to sing from the show. Those interested in auditioning should bring sheet music in the appropriate key. An accompanist will be provided. Actors may also be asked to read from the script.
Rehearsals are scheduled to begin Jan. 25. “My Fair Lady” will be presented in a concert-style setting with on-stage orchestration and an emphasis on musicality and story-telling. All scenes and musical numbers will be performed, but in a less conventional, more minimal manner.
The performers will have the script and score with them throughout the show. The concert-style format also offers more opportunity for non-traditional casting in terms of appearance and age.
The musical concert will be presented Feb. 12 through Feb. 14, 2010. The script calls for a cast of approximately six men and five women. Principal roles include Professor Henry Higgins, Eliza Doolittle, her father Alfred P. Doolittle, Colonel Pickering and Freddy Eynsford-Hill, in addition to various other supporting roles and the ensemble cast.
