Indiana Black Expo Inc,’s 47th Summer Celebration, offers something for everyone, regardless of age and interest. Below is a partial list of this year’s scheduled events. Unless otherwise noted, all events take place at the Indiana Convention Center. Find more details at indianablackexpo.com/summercelebration.

  

Saturday, July 8

IBE Film Festival 

Enjoy a series of films including “Seeking Counsel,” “Service to Man,” “Soiled Roots” and “Maya Angelou: And Still I Rise” from 11 a.m.–7 p.m. at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

 

Monday, July 10

Professional Networking Reception

This event allows for business professionals and aspiring executives to network and to have an opportunity to hear from the keynote speaker Myasha “Mya” Smith, the first African-American in the McDonald’s Next Generation program. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. 

 

Tuesday, July 11

We Are State Educational Institutions — Centers of Economic Opportunities for Indiana Businesses 

This panel will give information on the expectations and requirements to do business with Indiana State Educational Institutions. The panelists will share from their experiences to assist businesses in need of information on how to do business with these institutions. The event will start at 9:15 a.m. 

 

Thursday, July 13

Indiana University Education Conference Presented by Indiana Civil Rights Commission 

Come to the 10th annual conference that provides teachers, administrators and others in the education field with resources needed for working with cultural competency. Ron Clark will be the keynote speaker, and the event check-in is at 7 p.m. 

 

Higher Education Track — High-Impact Practices for Access and Success

This series of educational workshops focuses on different areas in the educational field such as adverse childhood experiences, college to career connection in health care, advancing student learning and success, along with many more. There will be different speakers and resources at each workshop in order to accommodate the different needs of those attending.

 

Friday, July 14 

IBE Youth Leadership Summit (YLS) Presented by Purdue University — Day 1 

An event for middle- and high-school leaders whose goal is to have an affect and be able to change the community. Here individuals can hear from professionals about decision-making and advocacy. This event provides a series of workshops for the youth to acquire knowledge that can later be applied. The event is $200 for the whole weekend and takes place at the Westin Hotel starting at 10 a.m., and a chaperone is required. 

 

Pacers Sports & Entertainment Corporate Luncheon Presented by Indiana University

Join Johnny Gill, Taye Diggs and Strada Education Network for this luncheon. Individual tickets are $60 or $600 for a full table, and the program begins at 11 a.m.

 

Saturday, July 15

IBE’s Fashion Show 

This fashion show will feature designers such as Honey Bee Couture (Alabama), Ivory Teague (Indianapolis), BGals Coture (Indianapolis), Royal Kurves (Michigan), Dreana Hill “EAR HUSTLE & MORE” (Ohio), Nikki Blaine Couture (Indianapolis), Anjel’s Boutique (Illinois), Joshae Reena (California, from Indianapolis), Nate Redd Clothing (Indiana) and Kera Lynn Little, student designer. The event is 4:30–6 p.m.

 

Sunday, July 16

IBE’s Gospel Showcase 

IBE will host a gospel showcase featuring Earnest Pugh, Eastern Star Choir and New Life Worship Center Choir, and there will be a special award tribute to Dr. Leonard Scott. The showcase will begin at 3 p.m.
