Links to host empowering event for girls

On Saturday, April 22, from 9 a.m.–3 p.m., the Circle City (IN) Chapter of The Links Inc. will host “Real World, Real Girls,” a day-long event focused on empowering young women.

The day’s offering will feature interactive and informative activities that will focus on incorporating healthy habits to create healthy lifestyles. The program is designed for young girls of color attending middle school (grades 7-9).

Links members will be on hand to mentor and provide attendees with the necessary tools to success relative to their academic and personal lives through a series of workshops and seminars with a sensitivity to the cultural, mind, body and spiritual needs of minority teenage girls.

Research shows that teens who engage in positive social and academic activities thrive more than their peers who lack such opportunities. When teens have mentors — specifically people they can relate to — their chances for success in life are even greater. Through its programming, Real World Real Girls helps enrich the lives of local girls — immediately impacting them while also laying a foundation for future success well into adulthood.

The gathering will be held at the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana, located at 201 Girl Scout Lane, Indianapolis, IN 46214 Suite J.
