Giveaways at back-to-school rally Zion Hope Baptist Church, 5950 E. 46th St., will host a free Back-to-School Rally and Community Day event on Aug. 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Children and their families will be provided with free school supplies, health and lead screenings, and a giveaway of clothing and laptop computers.
Kids will also be able to play basketball, complete obstacle courses and explore the church playground and water sports. Free food and free haircuts will also be available.
“This event provides parents and students with an opportunity to be blessed with free back to school supplies and encourages students to be excited about going back to school,” said Rev. Tony McGee, pastor of Zion Hope.

Skill sharing at Irvington church The second annual Irvington Skill Share at Irvington United Methodist Church, 30 N. Audubon Rd., will be Aug. 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Topics will include: Composting; caring for backyard chickens; cooking and baking with seasonal fare; drying and freezing seasonal produce; repurposing fabrics; home beer brewing and many more.
The day will also include a plant foraging walk with Greg Monzel, general manager of Pogue’s Run Grocer.
