The fourth annual Indy Open Dance competition is set to return this weekend.
Presented by Xiphos Corps at IUPUI, the competition, which aims to highlight dancers of all ages and skill levels from around Indianapolis and the greater Midwest region, will return to Emmerich Manual High School on April 22 at 5 p.m. The “open style” competition welcomes groups performing any style of dance to compete, said Indy Open spokesperson Chris Carrington.
“We at Indy Open Dance Competition pride ourselves in fostering the arts and especially, the dance community, here within central Indiana and the greater Midwest through our event,” Carrington said. “We aim to provide an inclusive, engaging event that caters to all ages and backgrounds, dancer and non-dancer alike.”
Indy Open will present 13 local and regional dance groups including Indanza Training Team and Dazzling Pearls from Indianapolis, Outlet Hip Hop Dance Troupe from Muncie, The Piecemakers from Chicago and more.
The competition will award cash prizes to the top three winners, including $1200 for first place, $600 for second place and $200 for third place.
“We hope that this event builds the dance community and provides a space for teams to share their work,” Carrington said.
The Indy Open Dance Competition will take place at Emmerich Manual High School, 2405 Madison Ave., April 22 at 5 p.m. Doors open at 4 p.m. Tickets start at $15 and are available on Eventbrite or at facebook.com/indyopendancecompetition/.
