Applications are now open to Hoosier families seeking temporary assistance and rapid re-housing.

Now through Oct. 28, Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority is accepting applications for the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Short-term Rapid Re-Housing and Homeless Prevention Grant, which provides funding to Indiana-based nonprofits seeking to address homelessness through rapid re-housing (RRH) and homelessness prevention (HP) efforts.

RRH is a type of housing intervention designed to help families in need leave homelessness and return to permanent housing without requiring preconditions such as employment, income or sobriety to secure housing.

HP housing interventions prevent families in need from losing current housing arrangements due to eviction notices, lease termination or situations of domestic violence. HP is also designed to prevent families from moving into an emergency shelter or living in a public place not meant for human habitation.

Both “Short-term” RRH assistance and “Short term” HP assistance typically include providing families in need with up to four months of financial support in rent and utility payments, utility and security deposits, payment of rental and/or utility arrears and more.

The TANF RRH/HP Grant Application, which opened Sept. 30, is open until 5 p.m. on Oct. 28, 2024.
