How Do You Explain a Quadruple Homicide?
“For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere.” Ephesians 6:12 AMP
Over the nine years of facilitating prayer vigils, there are those occasional times when tragedy touches home. It was only a few months ago that one of my nephews was the fatal target of a violent act. It hit hard. I couldn’t help but also think about Pastor Derek Jefferson of Jerusalem Temple Church (Indianapolis) who has lost several family members over the past couple of years due to the senseless violence in our streets. Pastor Malachi Walker, founder of Young Men Inc. would suffer the blow of losing a daughter at the hand of a young man while he himself was in the process of mentoring a group of young black boys from the inner city. Trouble has no respect of persons; it invades the homes of all people and is relentless in its pursuit to kill, steal and destroy.
Yesterday it hit close to home for me again when the news of four family members of one of our former church member were victims of a quadruple homicide. Three females and one male family member of our brother, Gene Taylor, went into eternity at the hands of a cold and heartless spirit. Yes, you heard me right — a spirit. My Bible has helped me to understand the root cause of the merciless killings that take place in our city is the work of the spiritual rulers of darkness that invade the hearts of people just like you and I who are motivated to carry out the schemes and devices of the spiritual prince of darkness – Satan himself (Ephesians 6:12). There comes a time when we the church must stop searching for topical solutions and realize we are called to attack the root. We can choose to go after flesh and blood or choose to use the weapons of our warfare (2 Corinthians 10:4) to combat the spiritual forces that are progressively destroying our families.
Join us Thursday, March 25, 2015, at 6:30pm, as we gather with the Taylor family and community to:
1. Wage war through the power of prayer against the spiritual forces behind the heinous acts of human perpetrators (2 Corinthians 10:4-6), and
2. Pray for our local law enforcement (God’s ministers of the sword) as they attempt to maintain order where there is disorder (Romans 13:4).
