Carnaval 2010 at the Jazz Kitchen

All are invited to the premiere Brazilian Carnaval party, Saturday, Feb. 13, from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. at the Jazz Kitchen, 5377 N. College Ave.

One of the most celebrated parties in the world, Brazilā€™s Carnaval, is known for its grand scale, intense samba beat and the visual feast of colors, costumes, floats and dancers. This event will offer Indianapolis an opportunity to taste a Brazilian tradition.

There will be live Samba dancers in costume; a live Brazilian Samba band, The IU Brazilian Ensemble; special menu with Brazilian food, Feijoada and appetizers; Brazilian beer and soft drinks; Caipirinha traditional drink special for $5 and much more.

Wine trail features Valentineā€™s Day romance

Seven central Indiana wineries will be featuring specialty wines and desserts to celebrate the romance holiday, Valentineā€™s Day, Feb. 13-14 at participating wineries. Ā 

Participating wineries include Buck Creek Winery (Indianapolis), Chateau Thomas Winery (Plainfield), Easley Winery (Indianapolis), Ferrinā€™s Fruit Winery (Carmel), Grape Inspirations Winery (Carmel), Mallow Run Winery (Bargersville) and Simmons Winery (Columbus). Ā This collection of wineries is also known as the Indy Wine Trail.

Tickets are $22 in advance and $27 during the event. Ticket price includes a glass of wine, and food at each winery. Ā 

Currently, the Indy Wine Trail is featuring a passport program where visitors receive a free wine glass after visiting all seven wineries. Trail visitors have until May 31, 2010 to complete the trail to earn the glass. Ā

The Pointer Sisters headline 500 Festival Snakepit Ball

The 500 Festival recently announced attendees of the 2010 Regions 500 Festival Snakepit Ball, presented by Cindy and Paul Skjodt, will be dancing to the music of the dynamic pop and R&B group The Pointer Sisters. Spanning four decades together the Grammy Award-winning trio recorded a string of hits that dominated the charts during the ā€™70s and 80s.

The Pointer Sisters have won numerous gold and platinum awards throughout their 40-year history. The dynamic group will entertain guests at the May 29 gala, the eve of the 2010 Indianapolis 500.

Known as the place to see the stars, the black-tie party includes red carpet arrivals by celebrities in town for race weekend and special VIP guests. Dinner and dancing will round out the celebration.

The Grammy Award-winning trio will be performing several of their popular hits such as ā€œHeā€™s So Shy,ā€ ā€œIā€™m So Excitedā€ and ā€œJump (For My Love),ā€ songs that are sure to keep the crowd up and doing the ā€œNeutron Dance.ā€

Taking place in the Indiana Roof Ballroom, The Snakepit Ball will begin at 6 p.m. with celebrity and guest arrivals; followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are are $275 per person. Corporate tables may be reserved when purchasing tickets.

Happy Anti-Valentineā€™s Day

Film collector, historian and preservationist Eric Grayson will be sharing some of his favorite vintage films one night each month. OnĀ Feb. 13 from 8 ā€“ 9:30 p.m., at The Garfield Park Arts Center, 2432 Conservatory Dr., viewers can enjoy ā€œMy Man Godfreyā€ (1936) with Carole Lombard.

In the film, a scatterbrained socialite hires a vagrant as a family butlerā€¦but thereā€™s more to Godfrey than meets the eye. No registration required.Ā Free Anti-Valentineā€™s Day treats included.

Passion Play features legendary Tramaine Hawkins

On Friday, April 2 and Saturday, April 3, Indianapolis-based Upon This Rock Productions will again present the annual passion play that completes Easter weekend in the city of Indianapolis.Ā For 26 years, Upon This Rock has blessed and inspired thousands throughout the U.S.

Playwright Sharon L. Hill, and her brother, Pastor A. Thomas Hill, share their God-given talents as they personally usher the audience through a journey backwards in time to the life and times of Jesus, the Christ.

Sharon and over 300 cast and crew bring the Bible to life and create scenes so real that every person in the audience feels as though they are actually in the presence of Jesus, the disciples, Mary Magdalene, Pilate, and other Bible personalities.

Special guest gospel artist, Lady Tramaine Hawkins will be featured in the 2010 production.Ā 

This yearā€™s Good Friday performance will feature both a matinee and evening performance, and will continue to uphold the long standing tradition of the entire audience sharing in Holy Communion during the Passover scene.Ā 

Performances will once again be held at Pike Performing Arts Center, 6701 Zionsville Rd.

A special discount of $20 per ticket (all performances, all seats)Ā will be given through Feb. 15.Ā 

Regular priced tickets ranging from $25 to $32 will go on sale Feb. 15.
