IUL hosts New Beginnings Career Training Program

The Indianapolis Urban League’s (IUL) January 2016 New Beginnings Workshop is from January 19th – January 29th from 9:00am-1:00pm daily.

In order to be considered for enrollment into the New Beginnings Program, all applicants must attend the mandatory Information Session next Thurs., January 14th at 11:00am at the Indianapolis Urban League (777 Indiana Avenue).Ā 

The New Beginnings Program is designed to help individuals 18 years of age and older who are unemployed or underemployed and/or are currently receiving TANF or food assistance in Marion County or surrounding counties tosuccessfully transition from public assistance, incarceration, and unemployment to employment and self-sufficiency.

Workforce development workshops occur daily from 9:00am to 1:00pm over a two-week period covering topics ranging from resume and cover letter writing to interviewing, job search and job retention strategies, goal setting, workplace diversity, time management, conflict resolution, financial literacy, dealing with difficult customers, utilizing social media and telephone etiquette, just to name a few. Free lunch is provided daily.

Program graduates will receive priority job placement assistance with our Preferred Employers. Over 80 businesses and companies participate as Preferred Employers, and they interview and hire the majority of our successful program completers!!! We already have interviews scheduled for eligible participants with our Preferred Employers in late January! The Indianapolis Urban League also assists program completers transitioning into employment with barrier busters such as free bus passes, free gas cards, and referrals to partnering agencies for various individual and family needs.

Please refer anyone you know who is an ex-offender, unemployed, underemployed, high school dropout, high school or college graduate, Veteran, or ANYONE struggling to find and/or retain employment to our January 14th Information Session. In order to be considered for these interviews and other employment opportunities, you must be enrolled in the January workshops.
