You never know who you might see going down the runway during the Live! From the Pink Carpet Brunch & Fashion Show.
It could be your friend, a co-worker, a prominent community leader or – better yet, you – showcasing the latest fashions.
The event, sponsored by the Alpha Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, delights attendees with elegance, fun and style for a great cause every year.
This year, Live! From the Pink Carpet will take place Sept. 7 at the Ritz Charles in Carmel. Once again, proceeds from the event will be used to support scholarships for the AKA Debutante Cotillion and service programs sponsored by the sorority and its partners.
“This is our signature fundraiser, and we look forward to everyone joining us and having a great time,” said Kyna Willis, event chairperson. “This is not your typical fashion show, and we will have a very interactive program this year.”
Funds raised will benefit community service programs of Alpha Mu Omega Chapter, such as their Emerging Young Leaders program, Global Poverty Initiative and Health Initiative.
Through these initiatives and others, the chapter led 83 service projects last year alone, totaling 3,781 hours and impacting 88,267 individuals in the Indianapolis community, in addition to making financial contributions to local charities.
During Live! From the Pink Carpet, participants are expected to have a lively, enjoyable experience from the moment they step inside and walk down the pink carpet as they are greeted by a fashion correspondent during a live feed, to an awesome brunch and a display of the hottest fashion trends.
Co-sponsored by Macy’s, the event will also include special guest emcee, WTLC personality Donna Schiele, opportunities for guests to get photos from the Pink Carpet, a Real Men Wear Pink segment and a venue regaled in chic décor.
“We will basically take over every space in the Ritz Charles that day,” Willis said. “It will almost be like walking into Macy’s doors.”
Willis added that the AKAs are happy to have Macy’s as a returning sponsor, noting that such a partnership is rare in the African-American community.
During the event, guests can participate in a luxurious raffle and enjoy designer pop-up shops in the Vendor Marketplace offering top brands like Bobbi Brown, Carol’s Daughter, MAC, Coty and Gucci fragrances and accessories from Michael Kors, Betsy Johnson, BCBG and Vince Camuto.
Special guests scheduled to be featured in the fashion show include Maggie Lewis, president of the City-County Council and, for the Real Men Wear Pink segment, Pastor David Hampton of Light of the World Christian Church.
Hampton will be joined by a host of current and retired NBA and NFL players courtesy of The Forty Group.
Hair for the models is sponsored by Fantastic Sams Hair Salon on Shadeland Avenue.
Danielle Smith, fashion show coordinator for Live! From the Pink Carpet and owner of Fresh Fettle, a fashion and creative consulting company, said that from the beginning the vision of the event has been to offer the hottest fashion show and fundraiser in the city for a good cause.
“I think we have achieved that goal,” Smith said. “We have the latest trends available for different price points, body types and lifestyles. This year’s event will definitely be a lot of fun.”
