Jazz orchestra to have special concert
The Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra will have a special tribute concert honoring George Gershwin at the Jazz Kitchen on Sept. 7 from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
The orchestra, along with vocalists Lydia McAdams and Rick Vale, will perform the tribute to Gershwin, one of Americaās greatest songwriters. The audience will hear classic tunes like āFascinating Rhythm,ā āEmbraceable You,ā āI Got Rhythm,ā āThe Man I Love,ā āOur Love Is Here to Stay,ā āStrike Up the Band,ā āSummertime,ā and āA Foggy Day in London Town.ā
There will be a $10 per person cover charge.

37th Greek Festival
Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 3500 W. 106th St. in Carmel, will have its 37th International Greek Festival Sept. 10-11.
Admission is $5 in advance and $7 at the door.
The festival features Greek food, dance performances, live music by the Bill Skimos Band, and a marketplace.
Hours Sept. 10 are 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Sept. 11 noon to 11 p.m.

Garfield Park open house
Indy Parks and Recreationās Garfield Park Arts Center, 2432 Conservatory Dr., will host an open house from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 28. The event will feature sample workshops from teaching artists concentrated on clay, drawing, painting, jewelry-making, dance and more.

Asante auditions
on Sept. 18
Auditions for acceptance into the Asante Childrenās Theatreās academy will be Sept. 18 at the Christamore House Family and Community Center, 502 N. Tremont Ave.
Students who are accepted will be exposed to 26 weeks of performing arts skill development workshops in dancing, singing, storytelling and acting, as well as in physical warm-ups, healthy nutrition and financial literacy.
Auditions should consist of a two-minute memorized monologue, a two-minute dance routine, and a two-minute song performed a cappella. Auditions are open to anyone aged 12 to 21 regardless of race, color, creed, nationality or religion. There is no cost to audition, and experience in dramatic or performing arts is not a prerequisite.

Rib America Festival
The 15th Annual Rib America Festival will return to Military Park, 601 W. New York St., Sept. 3-6 at 11 a.m. daily.
The event brings music, fun and award-winning barbecue teams from across the country.
Concerts will be performed each day with such names as Ted Nugent, Collective Soul, Bret Michaels, Blue Oyster Cult and more.
