High schools win state games

While much of the football focus has been on the Indianapolis Colts, there have been some fans of the sport that still had their eye elsewhere on the game. Only they were cheering on Hoosier high school athletes battling their way to the top.

Twelve schools representing six classes recently went head to head in the 2013-2014 Football State Tournament presented by the Indianapolis Colts. Notably, several Indianapolis schools found victory this year. Following are the results from games representing teams from across Indiana.

Class A State Championship

Eastern Hancock ā€“ 10

Tri-Central ā€“ 20

  • Tri-Central wins its first football state championship

Class 2A State Championship

Tipton – 6

Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter ā€“ 56

  • Ritter wins 4th state title, first in Class 2A

Class 3A State Championship

Andrean ā€“ 35

Brebeuf Jesuit ā€“ 27

  • Brebeufā€™s Eddie Banks was selected for Eskew Mental Attitude Award

Class 4A State Championship

Columbus East ā€“ 28

Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger ā€“ 27

  • Columbus East survives Dwenger rally for 2nd title (1973 3A)

Class 5A State Championship

Westfield ā€“ 18

Indianapolis Cathedral – 42

  • Cathedral wins 4th straight title, first in Class 5A

Class 6A State Championship

Carmel ā€“ 6

Warren Central ā€“ 7

  • Warren Central edges conference rival Carmel for 8th state title
