As the state’s economy expands, Gov. Mike Braun launched the Strategic Energy Growth Task Force to address Indiana’s surging electricity demand.
The initiative aims to ensure energy remains reliable and affordable while positioning Indiana as a national leader in energy innovation.

“Indiana’s economy is growing, and we need new solutions to meet this accelerating energy demand reliably and affordably,” Braun said. “(The task force) will take an all-of-the-above approach to meet electricity demands of our growing economy in the short run and plan for Indiana to become an energy export state and national leader in nuclear energy for the long run — all with a focus on reliability and affordability for Hoosiers.”
Indiana’s growing energy demands are fueled by the reshoring of manufacturing, increased data center operations for artificial intelligence and rising consumer electrification. The task force will create a comprehensive energy growth plan addressing immediate needs and long-term goals over the next 5 to 20 years.

Key objectives include:
- Developing the state’s energy sector to meet current and future demand.
- Keeping energy affordable for residents.
- Diversifying energy sources using an “all-of-the-above” strategy.
- Collaborating with the private sector to deploy advanced energy technologies.
Braun emphasized the importance of nuclear energy as part of Indiana’s long-term strategy, aiming to elevate the state to energy-export status.

The task force will engage with utilities, businesses and other stakeholders to align strategic plans while analyzing electricity cost drivers to propose solutions ensuring affordability.
