Afrofuturism Fridays

Join the Kheprw Institute for the kickoff of their Afrofuturism discussion group. On the second Friday of each month from 6 to 8 p.m., the discussion group will re-examine events of the past, critique the present day dilemmas of the African Diaspora and create a space to imagine and dream of possible futures. This event is free and open to the public. 

 

Celebration of Black History Concert

Join the Indiana Symphony Orchestra for the 34th annual Black History Concert. This concert, taking place Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m., is free to the public, but tickets must be reserved in advance. Tickets are available at the ISO Box Office now through Feb. 6. Tickets will be given on a first come, first served basis. Museum by Moonlight

You are never too old to enjoy the world’s best Children’s Museum. On Feb. 10, from 8 p.m. until the Water Clock strikes midnight, American Funds from Capital Group and the world’s largest children’s museum are throwing a party for kids at heart on Saturday, Feb. 10. Tru Dialogue Part 2

Tru Dialogue gives local youth the power to share perspectives with adults and community leaders.  This youth-led and youth-centered event takes place Saturday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m at the Fay Biccard Glick Neighborhood Center at 2990 W 71st St, Indianapolis. The event is free, but registration is required on Eventbrite.com. 

 

Brightwood Branch Community Engagement Meeting

Brightwood neighborhood residents on the city’s near eastside are invited to offer their suggestions on plans for a new 15,000-square-foot branch of The Indianapolis Public Library. The interactive meeting will be led by architects from Axis Architecture + Interiors and Meticulous who will accommodate ideas in their design plans. The meeting takes place Thursday, Feb. 1 at

6 p.m. at the Brightwood Branch, 2435 N. Sherman Drive.

 

Movie Premiere Tackles Mental Health

The Metropolitan School District of Washington Township will host the Indiana premier of the film Holden On. The movie tells the real-life story of a popular high school football player who secretly battles mental illness and ultimately takes his own life. High school students, parents, and other members of the community are invited to a film screening and panel discussion afterwards with the Director and local experts on Jan. 22, 2018 at 6:00pm. at Northview Middle School, 8401 Westfield Blvd.
