A change in the weather means a change in the wardrobe. This means more jackets, richer colors, textures and patterns that match the season.
While some items never go out of style, each season brings new fashions that allow people to express creativity through their clothes. This fall, people are seeing a lot of variety for both men and women and diverse styles that anyone can adopt.
The Indianapolis Recorder spoke with three fashion experts to find out what they are excited to see this season. Maybe their favorite fall fashions will inspire you to ditch your old coat and drab wares and opt for more stylish, statement-making clothing!

- Oversized patterns like plaids and hounds tooth, tartans. You’ll see this on women as well.
- Military inspired clothing such as olive colors, brass buttons, solid leather belts and structure.
- Balancing textures like leather, suede, wool and cashmere.
Top 3 women’s fashions
- Embellishment such as baroque filigree and intricate beading.
- Leather will be anywhere and everywhere.
- Babushka. These items will have Russian influences, ties into baroque, challis roses, scarves, appliqués, embroidery and crochet. Very folkish.

Top 3 men’s fashions
- Bright, colorful and printed socks worn with traditional suits for a more fashion-forward look or with a funky or casual style.
- Designer bow ties made with leathers, spikes, chains, wood, metals, flowers and other non-traditional materials.
- Prints, patterns and color blocking. This fall/winter you’ll see more of this in menswear, a lot of which is traditionally seen in women’s wear. This is androgyny at its finest.

- The tailored wool trench coat.
- Electric blue anything: Shoes, pants, jackets, coats and purses, the sky’s the limit.
- Mixed textures i.e. leather and faux leather mixed with different materials i.e. denim, cotton, stretch, wool, fur and faux fur.

- Coated denim.
- More and more accessories! Suit lapel pins, knit hats, chunky artisan styled scarves, unique watches, fun socks, classic shoes with nontraditional qualities.

- The dressy sweatshirt. You’ll find comfortable silhouettes with great embellishments that make it perfect for evening when paired with slim pants and heels.
- Leather accents. You’ll see real (and faux) leather everywhere; pants, dresses, tops, coats, etc.
- Flats with interesting cutouts, details, or colors.
