IPS sports roundup, Nov. 19-24

It’s officially winter in Indianapolis. Football is over — congratulations to Warren Central on an undefeated season, capped by a 6A state title — and snow is on the ground. These two happenings pave the way to basketball season, a most cherished time of year in the Hoosier state.

Shortridge (2-4) is carrying the load for the girls. The other three IPS schools haven’t chalked up a win yet. Crispus Attucks (2-0) is doing the same for the boys, with the other three schools starting a combined 0-4.

Here’s how it shook out last week.

Girls Basketball

Crispus Attucks (0-3)

  • Nov. 20 — Shortridge 43, Crispus Attucks 37 (Legacy Game)

This Week:

  • Nov. 29 — at Speedway, 7:30 p.m.
  • Dec. 1 — vs. Indian Creek, 2 p.m.

Arsenal Tech (0-6)

  • Nov. 20 — Lawrence North 55, Arsenal Tech 9
  • Nov. 23 — Bloomington South 54, Arsenal Tech 18
  • Nov. 24 — Marian 

This Week:

  • Nov. 29 — at Muncie Central, 7:30 p.m.
  • Dec. 1 — at Brebeuf, 1:30 p.m.

George Washington (0-2)

  • Nov. 19 — Lighthouse East 53, George Washington 18

Shortridge (2-4)

Boys Basketball

Crispus Attucks (2-0)

  • Nov. 20 — Crispus Attucks 87, Shortridge 53 (Legacy Game)

Crispus Attucks junior Since McMahon led all scorers with 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting. The Tigers shot 50 percent as a team and pulled down 48 rebounds to Shortridge’s 31.

  • Crispus Attucks 54, Brownsburg 49

Crispus Attucks senior Jaiquan Edwards was one of three Tigers in double digits with 18 points. Edwards added seven rebounds and three assists and three blocks to his stat line.

  • Nov. 30 — at La Lumiere, 8:30 p.m. (Hendricks County Hoopfest, at Danville)

Arsenal Tech (0-1)

  • Nov. 21 — Warren Central 100, Arsenal Tech 28

George Washington (0-1)

  • Nov. 23 — Bowman Academy 61, George Washington 52 (at Gary West)

George Washington senior Cris Rachell and sophomore Josh Jones each chipped in 11 points as the Continentals tried to climb back from an early 17-6 deficit.

This Week:

  • Nov. 28 — vs. Providence Cristo Rey, 7:30 p.m.
  • Nov. 30 — at Irvington Community, 7:30 p.m.

Shortridge (0-2)

  • Nov. 20 — Crispus Attucks 87, Shortridge 53 (Legacy Game)

Shortridge senior Erikmycal Powell led the Blue Devils with 11 points, adding three assists and one steal in a losing effort.

  • Nov. 21 — Noblesville 60, Shortridge 46

Shortridge seniors Andre Dickerson and Aaron Craig scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, but outside support was lacking. What also hurt Shortridge was losing to rebounding battle to Noblesville, 38-21.
