James M. Danko will be inaugurated as Butler University’s 21st president on Nov. 12 at 11 a.m. in Clowes Memorial Hall on the university’s campus.
During his address, Danko will share his vision for Butler, which includes being a more agile, responsive and innovative university than exists today.
Before coming to Butler, Danko was the dean of the Villanova School of Business in suburban Philadelphia.
The approximately 90-minute installation ceremony will begin with the processional of delegates from different universities, the Board of Trustees, vice presidents, deans and student leaders entering the hall.
Margaret Brabant, chair of the Faculty Senate, will open the event. The Butler Wind Ensemble and Chorale will perform, and then Danko will receive academic gifts, including the university seal and presidential chain, from faculty, staff, students and others, each of whom will speak briefly.
Danko will be introduced by his friend Ronald N. Langston, former director of the Minority Business Development Agency, U.S. Department of Commerce, under President George W. Bush. U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar will offer a salutation.
President Danko replaced Dr. Bobby Fong, who became president of Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa., earlier this year. Dr. Fong had been president of Butler since 2001.
