Stadium Journey Ranks Lucas Oil Stadium Best in NFL in 2009

The Colts’ second-year home, Lucas Oil Stadium, has been named the Best NFL Stadium of 2009, according to Stadium Journey.

Stadium Journey correspondents visited all 31 NFL stadiums during the 2009 season, and the Colts’ state-of-the-art site received the most points in rankings based on the following categories: food and beverage, atmosphere, neighborhood, fans, access, return on investment and etc., a summary of the experience. Lucas Oil Stadium scored 32 out of a possible 35 points, earning a perfect score in neighborhood, fans, return on investment and etc., according to Stadium Journey correspondent Tim Cary. The stadium received scores of four out of five in the remaining three categories.

“The city has done an admirable job of building an arena that connects with the city’s history, features the newest modern conveniences, has good sight lines, is located in a downtown area full of choice restaurants, and will prove comfortable to the fans who attend in any weather scenario,” wrote Cary. “I highly recommend a visit to Lucas Oil Stadium.”

The review gave the stadium high marks, and made special mention of the two video boards at diagonal ends of the field and the north window that gives view of downtown Indianapolis. The six-panel window measures 88 feet high and 244 feet across and can be opened, the first of its kind.
