Helio Castroneves thumbed his nose at Father Time, and in the process, captured the 105th running of the Indianapolis 500 for the fourth time in his illustrious Indy Car racing career. After capturing his third win at IMS in 2009 and finishing second in 2014, it didn’t look as if the affable 46-year-old Brazilian would ever crash the four-time champion party, but today he was quick from start to finish and with just under two laps to go, overtook Alex Palou to find his way to a massive post-race celebration.
Following as runner up Palou was 2019 winner, Simon Pagenaud in third with Pato O’Ward and Ed Carpenter rounding out the top five on a sun-soaked day where mild temperatures reigned and provided optimal racing conditions the entire day.
