In a press conference held at Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center, WISH-TV President and General Manager, Les Vann announced WISH-TV’s plans as the official Bicentennial Station.

“For more than six decades, WISH-TV has been here reporting and recording the news and events that have shaped Indiana’s history,” said Vann. “We are proud to partner with the Indiana Historical Society, our partners, and supporters as the official Bicentennial Station. We look forward to Celebrating Indiana throughout 2016.”

“We are very excited to bring history to life for our fellow citizens—of all ages—with the Indiana Bicentennial Minute campaign,” added John A. Herbst, IHS President and CEO. “Together with WISH-TV and so many valuable partners, we hope this sharing of our vast archival collections in a new and exciting way will inspire Hoosiers to learn more about where we have been, and connect that knowledge with where we can go in the next 200 years.”

In a partnership with the Indiana Historical Society, WISH-TV will air a year-long series of “Bicentennial Minutes,” produced by The Indiana Historical Society and Dennis Neary.

“It’s exciting to be creating these ‘Minutes’ for WISH-TV and the stations statewide, and it was fun to direct Jane in New York this week,” said Neary. ”Co-producer and cameraman Lee Nassau and I are roaming the state to bring viewers true stories of Hoosier heritage and pride.”

Neary is the owner of Neary Creative, who began his career at WISH-TV during the 1970s. These beautifully produced snapshots of history feature narrations by, Indiana native, Jane Pauley, who also began her career at WISH-TV during the 1970s.

Beginning in January, WISH-TV will also be producing a weekly bicentennial news franchise, and custom web content, as well as quarterly specials, in conjunction with Indiana bicentennial partner stations; WANE-TV, Fort Wayne; WTHI, Terre Haute; WEVV, Evansville; and WSJV, South Bend.

“We look forward to celebrating our state’s rich history over next year in many different ways across all our platforms,” said Vann.
