Indy women on historic Oprah show

Two Indianapolis residents, Ti’Gre McNear and her friend, Melissa Martin, were guests on a recent episode of the Oprah Winfrey Show. The episode, which aired Monday, gained national headlines after Winfrey announced that she would provide a trip to Australia for everyone in the audience.

“It was unbelievable. Something I could have never imagined,” McNear said about her experience on the talk show.

McNear, a longtime fan, said she had sent letters and e-mail’s to Winfrey’s Harpo Studios to be part of the show’s studio audience for several years, but to no avail. She put that effort on hold, but responded to a recent question on Winfrey’s Web site. Intrigued by her feedback, one of Winfrey’s producers contacted McNear and invited her to appear for a live taping of the show in Chicago.

“When I let go, God took care of it,” McNear said. “This shows that if you believe in something that is important to you, don’t give up, because it will happen.”

McNear and Martin will be flown from Indianapolis to Los Angeles, and then to Australia, where they will stay from Dec. 5 to Dec. 15.
