Freetown Village Children’s Ensemble is launching its second semester season in an effort to reach audiences with traditional African and African-American music. Children ages 8 through 12 years old learn African-American history and culture, public speaking, and movement. The children dress in various costumes as they present these songs to audiences throughout Central Indiana.
Auditions for any children 8-12 will be Jan. 18 and Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 4601 N. Emerson Ave. Boys and girls interested in auditioning do not have to have previous music experience, but must be able to sing a song and respond to questions.
The Freetown Village Children’s Ensemble performance season will continue through June 2011.
The Freetown Village Children’s Ensemble is directed by Ellen Sayles, a local educator and musician. Some of the previous performances have been at the Indianapolis Artsgarden, the International Festival, Circle City Classic Parade, and several area churches.
