On Nov. 6, 2015, the Indianapolis community lost a warrior and advocate when Amos Brown III passed away unexpectedly. Since his death, several local organizations and nationally known businesses have paid tribute to him, and that homage will continue to be paid April 26 when the Indianapolis Chapter of The Links Inc. hosts “A Tribute to Amos Charleston Brown III.”
The event, held at the Indianapolis Marriott downtown, will celebrate his legacy during a special dinner and presentation by prominent Indianapolis leaders. Dinner will begin at 7 p.m., and the program, featuring distinguished speakers such as Barbara Boyd, Rick Hite, Rev. Michael Jones, Deon Levingston, Andrea Morehead and others, will begin at 8 p.m.
Chairperson of the event, Jarnell Burks-Craig, said Brown had worked very closely with the chapter for a number a years, during which he hosted its annual Celebrity Barbecue and Grille.
“We have had 33 roasts, and for those 33 roasts, Amos Brown has been the pit master,” said Burks-Craig. “With his skills and understanding of people, he was able to lift up participants in a roast style, and it was very well accepted. There was never a person we asked to sit in the pit to be roasted by Amos that turned us down, because they knew he meant no harm. They all realized it was a way to give back to a not-for-profit service organization. We give away scholarships to graduating high school seniors, and that event helped us provide those. That was Amos’ driving force behind hosting the event.”
Tickets to the tribute event are $75 per person and $750 for a table of 10. Business attire is requested. All proceeds will go toward the college tuition of Brown’s granddaughter, Aaryana.
