The Indianapolis Public Library Board of Trustees has selected M. Jacqueline Nytes as the library’s next chief executive officer.

Pending finalization of terms of employment including starting date, Nytes will become the library’s 14th director in its history dating to 1873. She will replace Laura Bramble, who has served as CEO since early 2007. Bramble is retiring after 41 years in the library industry. She has served in various positions at The Indianapolis Public Library since 1992 after beginning her career at the local library in 1970.

Nytes currently serves as executive director of the Mapleton Fall Creek Development Corp. and as Indianapolis City-County Councilor in District 9. From 1998-2001, Nytes was the library’s chief financial officer. Prior to that, she served as the library’s associate director of management services. From 1981-1988, Nytes was the director of the Carmel-Clay Public Library.

“We are extremely pleased and fortunate to have someone with Jackie’s vast experience to lead The Indianapolis Public Library into the future,” said Tom Shevlot, president of the Library Board of Trustees. “Her knowledge of Indianapolis and the library system will be of tremendous benefit in enhancing the role of the library in the community.”

The new CEO will oversee a library operating budget of approximately $39 million, a system of 23 locations including Central Library, and an expanded offering of online services.
