The front office and fans of the Indiana Fever welcomed two-time WNBA champion and six-time all-star DeWanna Bonner with open arms as she arrived in Indianapolis on Feb. 10.

The organization acquired Bonner in free agency from the Connecticut Sun earlier this month. The 15-year veteran is on a 1-year, $200,000 contract with the Fever.

Chief operating officer and general manager of the Indiana Fever Amber Cox sang Bonner’s praises.

“It is an incredible day for our franchise,” Cox said. “Bonner is one of the greatest players in WNBA history. When we talk about the greatest players in the history of the WNBA, DB doesn’t get mentioned enough. When you look at her resume, very few people compare to all of her accomplishments.”

Additionally, Bonner is seven points shy of becoming the third-place all-time scoring leader in the WNBA. She is also the all-time leader in playoff games played.

Bonner, alongside the Sun and head coach Stephanie White, eliminated the Fever in the first round of the 2024 playoffs.

Now, both Bonner and White are with Indiana.

White said she wanted Bonner in Indiana and the acquisition was a “no-brainer.”

In the 2024 WNBA season, Bonner averaged 15 points, six rebounds and a steal and a half per contest.

Fever guard Caitlin Clark believes the front office acquisitions of talent like Bonner are a step in the right direction.

“They (Indiana Fever) know what it takes to win,” Clark said. “They know what it takes to get to the Finals; they know what it takes to win championships. I think it is exactly what we needed in our locker room.”

Bonner echoed her new teammate’s sentiments while sharing her ultimate goal for the Fever.

“I want to win a championship,” Bonner said. “We can take this thing to another level.”

The future Hall of Famer now wears No. 25 for the Fever.

Indiana opens the 2025 WNBA regular season against the Chicago Sky at 1 p.m. on May 17 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
