Clarian Health Plans (HMO) (HMOPOS), a Health Maintenance Organization, will offer Medicare Advantage plans in more counties in 2010.
Medicare beneficiaries in Marion, Boone, Blackford, Carroll, Delaware, Hamilton, Hendricks, Howard, Lawrence, Monroe, Morgan, Tippecanoe, Tipton and Vigo counties are eligible to enroll in the plans, which offer access to Clarian Health doctors and hospitals. The annual enrollment period is Nov. 15 through Dec. 31.
Choosing the plan that’s right for you
There are a number of factors to consider when selecting a health plan to meet your needs:
Cost
What are your out-of-pocket costs? Include monthly premium, deductibles, copays and coinsurance.
Benefits
What “extras” are covered? Are dental and vision services included?
Choice and convenience
Can you visit the doctors and hospitals you prefer? Are they close to your home?
Prescription drugs
Are your drugs covered under the plan’s formulary (list of covered drugs)? Are you covered in the gap?
Know this.
Medicare Advantage plans:
n Include Part A (hospital insurance) and Part B (doctors’ services and outpatient care), and in most cases, additional benefits, including prescription drug coverage.
n Are not supplemental insurance.
n Have monthly premiums that vary based on the company offering them and the benefits included.
