Thai Smile (2) puts one on your face

From Bangkok, Thailand to the backyard of some Fishers, Ind. residents, Thai Smile (2) is a restaurant to get excited over. Although under new management and no longer a part of the Thai Smile restaurant chain, the delectable food remains the same.

Adsadayut Jinokul, a server at the family-owned restaurant, says the food and the restaurantā€™s inspiration comes from ā€œback home in Thailand.ā€ In Thailand, the flavors of foods are broken down into four pads: north, south, east and west. Thai Smile (2) mostly uses food from the northern pad, which is generally the spiciest of them all.

Indiana wasnā€™t the first place that Thai Smile (2)ā€™s decided to open a restaurant; the restaurant first made its appearance in the United States in Miami, Fla.

ā€œMiami is more busy and has a greater population than Fishers,ā€ said Jinokul.

Thai Smile (2) has been in Miami for the past 10 years and is still open for business, according to Jinokul. Although Fishers is not nearly as busy or as highly populated, Jinokul and his family chose to open the restaurant here because it is a nice, clean area.

Nevertheless, neither the area nor the location changed the flavor of the tender, highly-sauced sesame chicken served over sticky Thai rice, steamed broccoli and cashew seeds, which I indulged in while dining at Thai Smile (2). Given a choice of having soup, salad or a spring roll with my meal, I chose a spring roll. It was simple; filled with lettuce inside of a thin, flaky spring roll wrap and served with a small side of sweet and sour sauce for dipping. For dessert, I tried mango served over rice and warm coconut milk.

I couldnā€™t try everything on the menu but what I did have, I took pleasure in and will definitely have again. Jinokul informed me that next time I come I should try the most popular item on the menu, Pad Thai. It consists of a special duck and fish, made with fresh chile and served over Thai noodles with the restaurantā€™s own spice tray; a blend of Thai herbs and spices on a spicy level of one to five, with five being the hottest.

If youā€™re in the mood for fried chicken dumplings or stuffed shrimp and chicken Thai style, or perhaps prefer a healthier mango stir fry or salmon pad Thai, I suggest you make your way to Thai Smile (2).

Thai Smile (2) is located at 11021 Allisonville Rd., Fishers, Ind. 46038.
