During the upcoming municipal election on Nov. 3, voters will be able to cast their ballots for City-County Council members. Voters in all but one of the city’s 25 districts have a decision to make.
Voters should keep in mind the Indianapolis City-County Council is one of the most important parts of local government. The council is the legislative branch of the City of Indianapolis and Marion County and is responsible for adopting budgets, levying taxes and authorizing financial appropriations to fund city and county operations, as well as enacting, repealing or amending local laws.
The council also appoints members to certain boards and commissions that serve the community in various areas. All meetings are open to the public, and the public is encouraged to attend.
