Gospel spreads ministry by way of song and is a genre strongly rooted within the African-American community.
Fans are invited to the Madame Walker Theatre, located at 617 Indiana Ave., on Oct.11 at 7:30 p.m. for Joyful Sound Productions’ (JSP) Circle City Classic Gospel Explosion 2013.
Founded by Reginald Barney in 1992, Joyful Sound is proud to provide Indy with a Christian alternative as it celebrates 21 years of service.
“The gospel genre adds another dimension to the Classic for people who are not secular,” said Barney. “There are a lot of people who want to experience something outside. I want people to know there is more to Classic than just hip-hop and R&B.”
This variety program will showcase both major recording artists and local talent including headliner Vanessa Bell Armstrong, religious comedian Stephon, Lamar Campbell, Psalmist Brenda McClintock and many more. Not to mention, a special guest appearance from Indianapolis Colts chaplain, Ken Johnson, followed by a prize giveaway.
“We are excited about this year’s event because Vanessa Bell Armstrong will actually be celebrating her 60th birthday with us,” said Barney.
“I think gospel is growing and people are starting to have a new sense of spirituality and conviction with God. I think because of what has gone on in society (with the economy and increase in violence), people are looking for hope, looking for change and somebody to believe in,” Barney said.
