Indianapolis Indians catcher Endy Rodríguez, Pittsburgh’s top prospect according to Baseball America, has been called up by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Rodríguez, who is ranked No. 35 among Minor League Baseball prospects by MLB Pipeline, has had a strong season with Indianapolis, hitting .268 with 25 extra-base hits, 36 walks and a team-high of 54 runs in 67 games.
He also had an impressive performance at the 2023 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, scoring a run and hitting a grand slam in his return to the Indians’ lineup.
As the No. 5 catching prospect, Rodríguez has a .994 fielding percentage in 464 innings behind the plate and has played 67 innings at first base without committing an error.
He was traded to Pittsburgh from New York in 2021 and was originally signed by the Mets as a non-drafted free agent in 2018.
He will make his Major League debut on July 18 against Cleveland alongside six other players from the 2023 Indianapolis Indians, including Quinn Priester.
