Local genealogists and historians will host a discussion on the importance of oral history in Black family genealogy at 2 p.m. April 2 at Scott United Methodist Church, 2153 Dr. Andrew J. Brown Ave.
The event ā āFind Your Family, Know Your Rootsā ā will be led by historian Eunice Trotter, author of āBlack in Indiana,ā and William Rasdell, a photographer and longtime Indianapolis resident. They will speak about their research into Black family history in Indiana and how to collect oral histories in your own family and community.
The event will include a workshop and professional genealogical assistance. Staff from the Harrison Center will provide oral history assistance.
Genealogists Dwayne Perry, Pam Griffin, Victor Stuart, and Mike and Denise Chisley will facilitate the genealogical assistance.
