Super Bowl odds: Colts favoured by 5.5 points

Colts quarterback: Peyton Manning, a New Orleans native and the son of former Saints quarterback Archie Manning. Only NFL player to win four MVP awards.

Saints quarterback: Drew Brees, led the league’s top-ranked offense and finished second to Manning in MVP voting this year. Nicknamed “Breesus” by New Orleans fans for miracles he’s pulled on the field and charitable efforts off it.

Head coaches: Jim Caldwell (Colts), first season; Sean Payton (Saints), fourth season, a former Ottawa Rough Riders quarterback.

Super Bowl commercials: A 30-second spot on CBS costs advertisers between $2.5 million and $3.1 million U.S.

U.S. viewers: Last year’s Super Bowl – which some argue was the best ever – set a record when an average of 98.7 million U.S. viewers watched the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Arizona Cardinals 27-23. That made it the most-watched sports event in the nation’s history and the second-most watched program ever, behind the final episode of MASH (an average of 106.8 million in 1983).

Canadian viewers: 4.3 million watched on CTV and French-language sports network RDS.
