After watching her cooking demonstration of a tasty vegetable stir-fry, Celebrity Chef Nikki Shaw took time to talk with the Recorder.
What inspired you to start cooking?
Chef Nikki Shaw: I have been cooking all my life. Ever since I was four years old, I would pull up a chair in my parent’s kitchen and I would cook. It’s just a passion that I’ve always had and I just followed my passion.
Why do you feel it’s so important for people to eat healthy?
It’s important to eat healthy because our bodies are our temple and we have to be around for our children and our grandchildren. We have to stay healthy. If we are overweight and eating a lot of fat, we’re killing ourselves inside and it becomes very expensive to try and correct the damage that we’ve done. It’s important that we invest in ourselves right now before we have to correct the problem. So we have to prevent it before it starts.
So how do you come up with your recipes?
I definitely make them up and I just make what I like. Honestly I have two children and I see what they like. I see the kinds of things that they like and that’s what I make.
