If you’re a soup lover like me, you’ll be excited to try Circle City Soups in the Indianapolis City Market, and you may even be impressed. While you can find traditional soups like potato bacon, creamed spinach and beef chili, you can also find items such as their Beer Can Vegetable (a vegan soup), Black Bean Bayou, Sweet Corn, Roasted Red Pepper Gouda and Roasted Sun Choke.
Although this all sounds tasty, I decided to approach this eatery slightly differently, as I was curious about their breakfast menu one Monday morning before heading into the office. I had already experienced their corn chowder soup, so I figured their breakfast had to be just as good.
This menu included items such as biscuits and gravy and a variety of breakfast bowls and sandwiches.
I chose to order the American sandwich, which included bacon, American cheese and a fresh scrambled egg on white honey wheat bread. In about five minutes my order was ready, and I was out of the door. Initially, I wanted to try my sandwich as soon I made it to my car, because it smelled so good! Since the sandwich had literally just come off the grill minutes ago, it was too hot, and I waited to eat it until I got into the office.
My American sandwich, cut into two, was quite filling, and I really appreciated the salty and sweet mix from the bacon and bread.
Circle City Soups also serves more than simply creative soups and breakfast items. Customers can find rotating salads, wraps and even their newest addition — chicken wings. When I asked the employee what some of their popular menu items are, she described their Vietnamese Noodle Wrap and Fried Egg BLT. Visitors can also spot the bayou pulled pork sandwich and pomme frites and Sriracha aioli on the menu. Circle City Soups also offers a pick any two combo, which lets customers choose among salads, sandwiches and soup for $6.
On Saturdays customers can order from Tomilson Tap Room, located just above the eatery on the second floor, if they’re interested in a beverage or two. Customers who order from the Tap Room are provided a different menu by Circle City Soups, which showcases different items than the downstairs location. From 11 a.m.–2 p.m., customers can enjoy brunch on the second floor with items such as Breakfast Pot Pie, The Cure with biscuits, Smoking Goose sausage gravy, fried potatoes tossed in cheddar cheese, a soft fried egg and a Sriracha drizzle, as well as the Pastrami Salmon, with house-made pastrami salmon served with fried caper and caramelized shallot cream cheese, mustard creme fraiche, soft boiled egg and bagel chips.
I later learned Roger and Cindy Hawkins, the couple who own Circle City Sweets, also own this little hub. I haven’t had a chance to taste their sweet treats, but I heard they are amazing. Seems like they have something good going here.
