Lt. Gen. Russel L. Honoré, an Army veteran and expert on emergency and disaster preparedness, will be the featured keynote speaker for 2018 Equal Opportunity Day on June 20 held by the Indianapolis Urban League.
Honoré, who retired from the Army after 37 years of service, is now a go-to authority who helps organizations develop strategic preparedness plans and helps shape leaders.
Honoré led the Department of Defense response to hurricanes Katrina and Rita and as commander of Joint Task Force Katrina, he became known as the “Category 5 General,” for his leadership in coordinating military relief efforts after Hurricane Katrina.
A native of Lakeland, Louisiana, Honoré is often featured on CNN for his expertise.
Highly decorated, Honoré was a second lieutenant of infantry and received a bachelor’s degree in vocational agriculture from Southern University and A&M College. He has a master’s degree in human resources from Troy State University, and he holds several doctoral degrees as well as.
He has written three books, “Survival: How a Culture of Preparedness Can Save You and Your Family from Disasters,” “Leadership in the New Normal” and his latest, “Don’t Get Stuck on Stupid: Leadership in Action,” which “challenges society in the age of the new normal — a business environment where change and unpredictability are constants and individual resilience is mandatory.”
