School bus hits power lines in Indianapolis

More by this author

Indianapolis police say a school bus struck low-hanging electrical lines, breaking its windshield and forcing students to stay on board until the power could be shut off.

The bus was carrying four Franklin Central High School students when it hit the line about 6:30 a.m. Friday on a rural road in southeastern Marion County. Police say the bus was no longer touching the power lines when it came to a stop, but the students were kept on board as a precaution.

No injuries were reported and another bus took the students to school.

It was not immediately known why the lines were hanging so low. Firefighters put out a small fire atop one of the utility poles holding the damaged lines.
