Indiana Pacers Head Coach Frank Vogel and star players Paul George, George Hill and C.J. Miles have continued their personal efforts to help pack the house for the Indiana Fever, and former Fever coach Lin Dunn has joined the effort this week to help the push toward a sellout crowd for Game 3 of the WNBA Finals on Oct. 9 at 8 p.m. at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
Vogel, George, Hill and Miles contributed resources prior to Indiana’s home game in the Eastern Conference Finals, also. With the help of the Fever’s former coach and hall-of-famer Lin Dunn, 2,300 tickets have been purchased to help local fans attend Friday’s game against the Minnesota Lynx.
In a rematch of the 2012 Finals that earned the Fever their first WNBA championship, Indiana currently leads the best-of-five-game series 1-0, after a 75-69 win Sunday in Minneapolis. Game 2 is scheduled for tonight at 8 p.m. Game 3 is Friday and, if necessary, Game 4 is Sunday in Indianapolis at 8:30 p.m.
Complimentary tickets will be distributed to fans on Wednesday at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse Box Office, beginning at noon. Fans may collect up to a maximum four tickets per person. Additional tickets are available at the box office or at FeverBasketball.com and all Ticketmaster outlets, beginning at just $12 for balcony seating.
In search of its second WNBA crown in four seasons, the Fever franchise is hosting a viewing party for Tuesday’s Game 2 in Minnesota, at Blind Owl Brewery, 5014 E. 62nd St. Fans can pick up cheer cards, win raffle prizes and enjoy building camaraderie with local fans prior to Game 3 in Indy.
Wednesday, Fever fans will gather at City Market from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with mascot Freddy Fever stirring the spirit with cheer cards and a prize wheel during the midday lunch.
Friday will be declared locally as Fever Friday by Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard, encouraging fans and local residents to wear red during the work and school day. In conjunction with Food Truck Friday on Georgia Street, a Fever rally will be conducted for fans who want to pick up cheer cards or spin a Fever prize wheel. The rally lasts from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Fever Playoffs are presented by Old National Bank. Fans are encouraged to wear red to Friday’s game, the same as in 2012 when the Fever won its first WNBA championship and the first pro basketball championship in Indiana since the ABA Indiana Pacers in 1973.
Participating in their WNBA-record 11th consecutive postseason, the Fever enter Tuesday’s Game 2 with more playoff victories (34, tied with Los Angeles) than any franchise in WNBA history. Bankers Life Fieldhouse has been host to more WNBA playoff games (30) than any other venue. On Friday, star forward Tamika Catchings is expected to break a WNBA postseason record by participating in her 65th career playoff game.
A WNBA playoff participant in 11 straight seasons and 12 times since 2002, the Indiana Fever have reached at least the conference finals eight times in the past 11 years – including WNBA Finals appearances in 2009 and 2012. Just three seasons ago, Indiana capped the 2012 campaign as the champions of women’s basketball, beating the Minnesota Lynx in the WNBA Finals.
