IF Theatre’s second Spotlight Season will shine a light on local talent.

IF Theatre’s “Spotlight Season” is a series of seven productions which aim to highlight the “depth and variety of artistic talent” in Indianapolis’ arts community, according to a press release. Kicking off on Nov. 8, the Spotlight Season includes nearly 60 performances — including a holiday parody musical, dark comedy, a cult classic adaptation and a contemporary retelling of the classic American Musical — through May 24, 2025.

The season opens with a new dramatic comedy by award-winning playwright Rachel Bublitz entitled “Funny, Like an Abortion.” The two-actor dramedy — which touches on themes of loyalty, friendship and the value of freedom — demonstrates the “importance of teamwork and solidarity in the creation of new, exciting theatre projects in Indianapolis,” according to a press release.

“Funny, Like an Abortion” is a co-production between Theatre Unchained and American Lives Theatre and is onstage at the IF Black Box Theatre Nov. 8-24.

Throughout the rest of the season, IF Theatre will present a variety of shows in partnership with established organizations such as Defiance Comedy, Betty Rage Productions, Cryptid Entertainment and Individual Poetry Champion Gabrielle Patterson.
