Indiana Black Expo announced former senior associate athletic director and chief diversity officer for Columbia University athletics, Cara Holdsclaw, as chief operating officer.
An Indiana native, Holdsclaw joins IBE following her time at Columbia University, where she was responsible for the strategic coordination of revenue generation of the athletic department. Additionally, she oversaw all diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, as well as name, image and likeness for all staff and student athletes.
“Cara brings a multitude of skills needed for the organization to grow and continue to flourish,” Alice Watson, IBE President & CEO, said in a press release. “I am excited to have Cara work alongside me to carry out IBE’s strategic plan and to implement impactful programming for our communities across the state.”
As chief operating officer at IBE, Holdsclaw will oversee the planning and development of programming and administration. Holding a master’s and doctorate in sports management from Indiana University, Holdsclaw will seek to uphold IBE’s mission of “serving as an effective voice and vehicle for the social and economic advancement to African Americans.”
Previously, Holdsclaw served as the director of business operations for the NBA G League’s Agua Caliente Clippers, the associate athletic director of business administration, senior woman administrator and assistant professor of sport management at A&M University. Prior to those roles, Holdsclaw worked for the Indiana Fever.
“I am excited for this opportunity,” Holdsclaw said in a press release. ” To be a part of the rich IBE history, driving socioeconomic change for African Americans in the state of Indiana and beyond is something that I am committed and can’t wait to contribute to.”
