Indy Drag Theatre’s (IDT) next drag parody tackles the humor and chaos of the 1985 cult classic “Clue.”
The drag parody adaptation of the board game and film takes the stage at the District Theatre for a handful of performances Aug. 1-3 and Aug. 7-10. “Clue: A Drag Parody” follows six strangers invited to a dinner party at a mansion where the host is blackmailing them. After the host is murdered, pandemonium ensues the guests scramble through a game of whodunnit.
“There have been many stage iterations of ‘Clue,’ but none as special as ours,” director Vera Vanderwoude St. Clair said in a statement. “We’ve infused iconic movie moments with over-the-top camp DRAG! I’m excited to witness this ensemble pay homage, while still finding new and exciting ways to make such iconic characters uniquely ours.”
“Clue: A Drag Parody” is a celebration and fusion of the traditional art of theatre and exaggerated art of drag, according to a press release. A step beyond the drag one might encounter in a nightclub or bar, IDT’s production of “Clue” combines scenes from the film with fundamental pop and queer culture moments.
