IndyGo announced its new MyKey+ e-fare collection system on June 2 that will offer riders additional payment options and features starting July 1, 2026.

“The launch of MyKey+ builds upon the success of IndyGo’s existing fare system while introducing new tools that make paying for transit easier, more flexible and more equitable for our riders,” said Jennifer Pyrz, president and CEO of IndyGo. “Importantly, these upgrades maintain access for cash-paying customers while expanding the convenience and consistency of the rider experience across our network.”

Starting July 1, riders will be able to open a MyKey+ account through an online portal, the MyKey+ mobile app or by downloading the MyKey+ app from the Apple App Store or Google Play. Riders can obtain the new MyKey+ card at the Care Center Desk at the Julia M. Carson Transit Center (CTC), by calling the Customer Care Center at 317-635-3344 or by attending an open house session at the CTC in July or August.

This new system also allows users to add money to their account using various methods such as using the app, visiting the web portal, the CTC and customer care center. MyKey+ account users can reload the cards by visiting IndyGo’s retail network, which includes Dollar General, Kroger, CVS, Speedway and Walgreens.

New validators will be installed on all buses. New MyKey+ cards will be distributed at the CTC Care Center Desk located at 201 E. Washington St.

New features will include the ability to pay multiple fares for family members or groups using a single card. Fare capping will ensure that riders won’t pay more than $6.00 a day or $24.75 a week.

A new “one last ride” feature will allow riders with insufficient funds to take a trip, the equivalent of one ride or up to two hours, using a one-time negative balance.

Riders are encouraged to use their remaining MyKey balance before Aug. 31, 2026. If riders fail to utilize their remaining balance on their MyKey account, they are encouraged to contact IndyGo’s customer support.

Key dates for the transition include:

July 1: MyKey+ cards and app launch.

July 31: Last day to add money to MyKey accounts.

Aug. 1: Ticket vending machines (TVM) at BRT stations, Super Stops and the CTC will be turned off.

Aug. 31: Last day to use remaining MyKey funds.

Sept. 1: MyKey no longer accepted.

To ensure riders are prepared for the transition to MyKey+, IndyGo is offering open house sessions at the CTC during the following dates and times:

July 6 – 17

Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. – 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.

 Aug. 17 – 28

Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. – 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.

During these open house sessions, riders can obtain a MyKey+ card, establish a MyKey+ account and learn about the new features of MyKey+. Language interpretation will be available. The CTC Care Center Desk will also be open for special Saturday hours to help riders upgrade to MyKey+, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., in July and August.

MyKey+ is part of EZFare, a regional fare collection system that enables riders to purchase tickets and passes across multiple transit agencies spanning Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

At the time of this reporting, there has been no announcement about fare prices being altered due to the implementation of MyKey+.
